What is Certified Organic?

Certified Organic” refers to agricultural and processed food products that have been verified to be compliant to a state or private organic standard. The certification of compliance is performed by private or state certification agencies. Please see our Links page to view a list of some international certification agencies.

At this time, most organic standards regulate only food products; food for humans and food for animals consumed by humans. However, due to consumer demand, other standards are being developed by governments and private bodies that will include products and scopes such as fiber, cosmetics, supplements, pet food, supermarkets and restaurants.
